Canada’s beef producers were the first to develop a Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Beef Cattle in the 1990’s. The CCA participated in the rigorous review process to update the new Code released in 2013.

Advocacy is a crucial part of CCA business. Advocacy ensures the interests of Canada’s beef cattle producers are known to key influencers and well-represented in trade negotiations.
CCA won its battle against U.S. mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) in December 2015 when the U.S. repealed the discriminatory legislation for beef and pork, and USDA provided notification that COOL for beef and pork would no longer be enforced. The successful conclusion of this file followed a WTO arbitration panel decision authorizing Canada to implement retaliatory tariffs of $1.055B CAD over COOL.
CCA spearheaded the development of the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef to ensure Canada continues to produce beef in an environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically viable manner.
As the voice of Canada’s 60,000 beef farms and feedlots, CCA is the go-to source for industry news. CCA also hosts lobbying and networking events on Parliament Hill and Town Hall meetings across Canada.
