Talking to your Member of Parliament

Members of Parliament (MPs) must represent all of their constituents. As such, MPs must be aware of a wide variety of issues – too numerous to keep top-of-mind at all times. That’s where producers can help by creating awareness about the issues their industry faces. As significant members of Canada’s true grass roots, keep reminding our politicians, and Canada, what this industry means for today and the future. Your voice counts. Together we can make a difference.

CCA offers the following strategy for ‘talking to your MP’:

Talking Tips

  • Keep your MP focused on issues important to you through regular contact.
  • Get to know your MP and ensure they know you by meeting with them regularly.
  • Take the opportunity in these meetings to ensure beef cattle producer issues are top of mind and that your MP knows what action they can take to help the industry.
  • Momentum is a big part of achieving change in government policies. That momentum comes from one visit at a time.
  • Update CCA's Ottawa staff on your interactions with MPs. This helps to increase the chances of building on that momentum to successfully influence federal policy.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest issues affecting the industry by visiting our Government and Regulatory section of the website.

Responses from Federal Parties

The CCA has received the first responses to its questionnaire inviting the federal political parties to clarify their respective platform positions on agriculture ahead of Canada’s 41st federal election.

Presented to all the federal parties, the CCA questionnaire contained 11 questions on a range of key policy issues of importance to Canada’s beef cattle producers. The CCA is sharing the Parties’ full and unedited responses to the questionnaire with Canada's 83,000 cattle producers to help them decide their vote on May 2.
