    Canada’s beef producers were the first to develop a Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Beef Cattle in the 1990’s. The CCA participated in the rigorous review process to update the new Code released in 2013.

    CCA won its battle against U.S. mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) in December 2015 when the U.S. repealed the discriminatory legislation for beef and pork, and USDA provided notification that COOL for beef and pork would no longer be enforced. The successful conclusion of this file followed a WTO arbitration panel decision authorizing Canada to implement retaliatory tariffs of $1.055B CAD over COOL.
