Feeds Act and Regulations

The manufacture, sale, and importation of livestock feeds and feed ingredients are governed by the Federal Feeds Act and Regulations. The Animal Health and Production Division, Animal Products Directorate of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Regional Plant Products Inspection personnel administers the Act and Regulations. Their responsibilities include: (1) establishment of criteria for product standards, packaging, and labelling; (2) monitoring products to protect farmers, livestock, and public against potential health hazards and fraud in marketing; and (3) ensure product safety (animal and human health), manufacturing safety (environment), and assurance against product misrepresentation (fraud).
