Read the label and follow label directions.

If the label indicates that subcutaneous use is available, then use the drug subcutaneously.

Inject all IM products in the neck. SC products should be injected in the neck preferably or over the ribs, behind the top of the shoulder blade.

Use the proper technique. The injection site should be clean and not full of manure or mud. Do not place more than 10 cc per injection site. Injections should be several inches apart, which is especially important at processing time when cattle are injected with multiple drugs and vaccines. Vary the injection site day to day. For intramuscular injections, inject straight in and deep (perpendicular or at right angles to the body). For subcutaneous injections, tent the skin or go in at an angle with a short needle and check to be sure that you are under the skin and not in the muscle before you inject.

Do not give live vaccine injections in an area where you will subsequently place a hot iron brand since the heat of the brand will destroy the vaccine. Modified-live virus vaccines promote an immune response in the animal because they multiply locally and to do so, they must remain alive.
