Pay Attention to Sanitation

Keep equipment clean to reduce infections and injection site reactions.
Use hot water to clean syringes used for live vaccines since residues from the disinfectants will kill the live vaccine when the syringe is used again.
Do not contaminate drugs.
Use transfer needles (ask your veterinarian how these work).
Do not go back into the bottle with the injection needle.
Do not leave needles in the bottle top.
Mark and separate syringes.
Dispose of used and outdated products and bottle according to municipality bylaws.
Dispose of sharps (needles, scalpel blades) in a separate sharps container. Ask your veterinarian where these can be disposed.
