Animals are purchased from individuals
that have an on-farm quality assurance program. This includes unique individual
identification of all incoming animals based on the requirements of the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency
(CCIA).
Animals are purchased in good health
(e.g. reduce risk of salmonella).
A receiving log is kept to record source,
date, and description of cattle.
Cattle are inspected on arrival.
Previous health histories of animals are
obtained, including treatments, implants, and vaccinations.
Mixing of different source cattle is
minimized to reduce risk of stress and disease (e.g. salmonella) and use of
antimicrobials.
Livestock trucks are inspected and
cleaned between uses.
