Feed, Water, and Bedding

Feed medications are used according to the Compendium of Medicating Ingredient Brochures (CMIB).

All feed medications are recorded, and used only when necessary. Feed medication prescriptions are written by the herd veterinarian when medications are used other than as specified by the CMIB.

Feeding pens are clearly and distinctly labeled to avoid feed mix-ups. Feeding pens are well designed for drainage to reduce mud build-up on hides.

Feeding records are kept, including deliveries and calls.

To reduce cross-contamination between medicated and non-medicated feeds, mixing, handling, storage, and feeding equipment is flushed or cleaned by physical means; production and feeding is sequential; handling and feeding equipment is compartmentalized or separate; or other equally effective procedures are used.

If a watering system is used to deliver medication, it is calibrated to ensure accurate dosing, and it is flushed or cleaned to avoid contamination and drug carry over.

Sufficient bedding is used and pens are cleaned as needed to reduce mud on hides (tag build-up).
