Processing:

Cattle

Animals are uniquely and permanently identified on arrival, if not already done so.

Standardized processing and treatment regimes are followed.

All procedures at processing (including vaccination, implanting, parasite treatment, individual and mass medication) and at treatment (individual and mass) are recorded in a Processing Record and signed by personnel. This information includes date, animal identification, diagnosis/reason, product, dose, route, withdrawal, and release data. This information is provided to the next customer.

A valid veterinary/patient/client relationship is in place. If animal health products are used off-label, then veterinary prescriptions are written, signed, and kept on record.

Animal health products are used according to label directions. This includes accurate dosing of products by current individual animal weight rather than group averages.

Withdrawal periods are followed and checked prior to release of any animals for slaughter (this includes vaccinations, parasite treatments, individual and mass medication (parenteral, feed, and water).

A herd health program is in place to reduce disease risks, and thus, the need for antimicrobials. Only animals in need of medication are treated (CVMA antimicrobial prudent use guidelines).
