Calgary, AB – The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) welcomed news that the Government of Canada will deliver tax relief to producers struck by natural disasters across the prairie provinces in 2008 and 2009. This comes after years of effort by the CCA to bring about a national strategy that enables disaster-stricken producers to make decisions aimed at business recovery.
CCA president, Brad Wildeman says, “We’re glad to see the federal government responding to our requests for equipping producers with tools to make well-informed business decisions during times of crisis. This early announcement of tax deferrals aims at getting producers back on their feet when the crisis passes. Now fully-informed on the tax implications, it offers relief and more options to producers faced with stocking decisions. Restoring financial flexibility for a period of time until operations are re-established, can help pull an operation through at a time when it’s needed most.”
