CCA welcomes Agriculture and Agri-Food Market Access Report

Calgary, AB – The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) welcomed the Agriculture and Agri-Food Market Access Report 2011-2012 released today. The report itemizes the many significant market access achievements of benefit to the Canadian cattle industry captured in this period as a result of the determined efforts of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and International Trade Minister Ed Fast.

CCA President Martin Unrau said competitive market access is crucial to the success of the Canadian cattle industry. Restoration of access of under thirty month (UTM) Canadian beef to South Korea and UTM boneless Canadian beef to China, along with the World Trade Organization (WTO) determination that U.S. Country of Origin Labelling (COOL) discriminates against Canadian livestock – a decision subsequently upheld by the WTO Appellate Body – are among the significant achievements of direct benefit to industry competitiveness.
