CCA Statement on sunsetting of biofuels policy

Calgary, AB – The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) has long believed that a market-based biofuels industry will enable the cattle industry to compete for feed grains on a level playing field. A recent decision by the Federal Government to sunset its biofuels subsidy in 2017 as revealed in a Globe and Mail news article brings the CCA one step closer to realizing this goal.

In addition to ending the biofuels subsidy, the CCA fully supports the sunsetting of federal and provincial biofuels mandates. The CCA’s belief that the market will decide the best use of feed grains in Canada is reflected in CCA policy, which supports the removal of subsidies, tariffs and the mandate for biofuels.
