Jordan
In early February, the Government of Canada secured full market access for Canadian beef and cattle exports into Jordan. Ministers Ritz and Day announced Jordan’s decision to lift their import ban imposed in 2003 due to the discovery of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE).
This is a positive step forward for both countries. Jordan recognizes that Canadian beef provides the high quality and nutrition demanded by their citizens. Although Jordan is a smaller market for Canada, this incremental change signifies good news for Canadian producers - and is also a strong signal to the rest of the global community that full access needs to be restored for Canadian cattle and beef based on science.
With the Jordan agreement, the value of Canadian beef exports could increase up to $1 million.
