Europe

Minister Day announced in the fall of 2008 that Canada would begin exploring the possibility of a comprehensive new trade agreement with the European Union.

In March 2009, the joint Canada-EU report resulting from those exploratory discussions recommended a comprehensive agreement with no exclusions of product coverage from the outset.

The CCA is strongly supportive of this initiative.  If Canada can reach an agreement with the EU that includes full duty free and quota free access for Canadian beef, the EU could rival the U.S. as a destination for Canadian beef exports.
