Enhanced Feed Bans

In July 2007, Canada implemented an enhanced feed ban to reduce the timeframe to eradicate BSE in the national herd. Under this feed ban, all specified risk material (those tissues that could potentially carry BSE infectivity) must be removed from all animal feeds, pet foods and fertilizers to prevent more than 99 per cent of any potential BSE infectivity from entering the Canadian feed system.
